Healthcare
Clinical intelligence that knows your patients, your policies, and your protocols.
VAERION's healthcare workspace combines clinical decision support, insurance intelligence, treatment planning, and HIPAA-ready PHI routing — so your team delivers better care with complete governance.
Clinical Workspace
Three purpose-built workspaces. One governed platform.
Most clinical software forces you to choose between front-office efficiency and clinical depth. VAERION's healthcare workspace is organized into three distinct command surfaces — each purpose-built for a different role in the care delivery workflow — unified under a single governed AI layer. Your front desk, clinicians, and operations team all work from the same patient record, the same AI, and the same compliance backbone.
Clinical Workspace
The clinical view is where care happens. Your providers access full patient charts with multi-tab depth: Chart Overview, Clinical Notes, Treatment Plans, CDS Alerts, Insurance Coverage, and Communication History — all in one screen. The AI Consultant surfaces relevant drug interactions, allergy flags, and clinical protocol recommendations inline as you chart, without requiring a separate lookup workflow.
- ✓ Patient Search and full chart access
- ✓ Multi-tab encounter documentation
- ✓ Inline CDS alerts and AI Consultant
- ✓ Treatment Plan creation and tracking
Command Workspace
The Command view gives practice leadership a live operational picture. Encounter volume, outstanding CDS alerts, insurance pre-authorization flags, and communication queue status are surfaced in real time. Atlas, VAERION's executive AI persona, synthesizes across all active patients to surface the decisions that need attention today — before they become tomorrow's problems.
- ✓ Real-time operational dashboard
- ✓ Outstanding CDS and pre-auth alerts
- ✓ Atlas AI executive briefings
- ✓ Cross-patient pattern recognition
Operations Workspace
The Operations view is built for your administrative and billing team. Insurance verification, benefit calculations, remaining annual maximum tracking, and pre-authorization narrative generation all live here. When a patient's treatment plan triggers a pre-auth requirement, Operations is notified instantly — with a draft AI-generated narrative ready for submission to the insurer, requiring only clinician review and signature.
- ✓ Insurance verification and benefits
- ✓ Pre-auth detection and workflow
- ✓ AI-generated pre-auth narratives
- ✓ Encounter log and audit trail

Clinical Decision Support
The knowledge your providers need, delivered at the moment of care.
Clinical Decision Support is not a popup. It is not a checklist your team learns to dismiss. VAERION's CDS engine is woven directly into the patient chart — analyzing the patient's active medication list, documented allergies, and planned procedures against a continuously maintained clinical reference database. When a potential contraindication is detected, it surfaces in context, with the clinical rationale, severity classification, and recommended action.
The engine covers three primary clinical risk domains: drug-drug interactions, drug-allergy cross-reactivities, and clinical protocol compliance. A Warfarin patient presenting for a procedure that requires antibiotic prophylaxis will trigger both the anticoagulation management protocol and a check for penicillin allergy cross-reactivity with cephalosporins — simultaneously, before the first order is written.
For dental and specialty practices, VAERION includes endocarditis prophylaxis protocols, anticoagulation management workflows, and allergy cross-reactivity mapping covering the most clinically significant drug families. The reference database contains 108 clinical records and is structured for ongoing expansion as new protocols are adopted by your practice.
Drug Interaction Checking
Detects clinically significant drug-drug interactions against the patient's active medication list in real time. Example: Warfarin + Penicillin — flags bleeding risk potentiation and recommends INR monitoring before procedure. Severity-classified from informational to contraindicated.
Allergy Cross-Reactivity Monitoring
Goes beyond direct allergy matching to identify cross-reactive drug families. A documented Penicillin allergy triggers a Cephalosporin cross-reactivity alert automatically — the kind of secondary risk that manual allergy lookups routinely miss under time pressure.
Clinical Protocol Guidance
Surfaces applicable clinical protocols based on the patient's conditions and planned procedures — endocarditis prophylaxis, anticoagulation management, and more. Protocol recommendations include rationale, dosing guidance, and documentation requirements so your providers can act immediately.
AI Consultant
An embedded AI clinical advisor that can be queried directly from the patient chart. Ask about a specific interaction, request a differential consideration, or verify a protocol — and receive a grounded response with clinical citations, not generic LLM output. All AI processing routes through VAERION's HIPAA-eligible AI processing infrastructure.
Insurance Intelligence
Stop leaving revenue on the table. Stop surprising patients at checkout.
Insurance verification delays and benefit miscalculations are among the most common causes of patient dissatisfaction and administrative write-offs. VAERION's Insurance Intelligence Engine eliminates both by computing real-time benefit estimates, tracking utilization, and detecting pre-authorization requirements before treatment begins — not after.
Coverage Tier Estimation
VAERION maps each proposed procedure to the patient's coverage tier — Preventive, Basic, Major, or Orthodontic — and applies the plan's co-insurance percentages to produce an estimated patient responsibility before the appointment. Your front desk presents real numbers, not guesses, and patients arrive informed rather than surprised.
The engine is backed by 20 dental plan templates covering the most common plan structures, with the ability to add custom plan configurations for large employer groups or self-insured arrangements.
Annual Maximum & Deductible Tracking
The system maintains a live view of each patient's benefit utilization: how much of their annual maximum has been used, how much remains, and whether their deductible has been met. When a treatment plan is built, VAERION calculates whether the proposed procedures can be fully covered within the remaining benefit period or whether sequencing adjustments would maximize coverage.
This is particularly valuable for patients with complex, multi-visit treatment plans — helping your team sequence procedures to optimize insurance utilization across benefit years.
Pre-Authorization Detection
VAERION automatically flags procedures that require prior authorization from the patient's insurer before treatment can proceed. The detection runs at the moment a procedure is added to the treatment plan — not the day before the appointment when it's too late to avoid a scheduling disruption.
When a pre-auth requirement is detected, the system creates a pre-authorization workflow task, routes it to the Operations workspace, and begins generating the supporting narrative — so your team is working the authorization, not just discovering it needs to be done.
AI-Generated Pre-Authorization Narratives
This is the feature that changes the administrative workload calculation for growing practices. When a pre-authorization is required, VAERION uses its HIPAA-eligible AI processing infrastructure to generate a clinically accurate, insurer-formatted pre-authorization narrative — drawing from the patient's documented condition, treatment history, and the clinical rationale for the proposed procedure.
The draft narrative is routed to the treating provider for review and approval. Once approved, it is formatted for submission to the specific insurer. What previously required 20-30 minutes of skilled administrative time per authorization now requires a 2-minute provider review. All AI processing occurs within VAERION's HIPAA-eligible infrastructure under your active BAA.

PHI Gateway & Compliance
HIPAA-ready architecture. BAA active. Fail-closed by design.
Healthcare AI is only as trustworthy as its infrastructure. VAERION's PHI Gateway is not a checkbox — it is the technical enforcement mechanism that ensures PHI never touches non-BAA infrastructure, regardless of what features are enabled or what users do. Trust is built into the routing layer, not left to policy compliance.
VAERION BAA Active (signed 2026-03-24)
VAERION operates under VAERION's signed Business Associate Agreement covering all PHI processing through its dedicated PHI-isolated processing layer. Your PHI never leaves the BAA boundary.
PHI Encrypted at Rest
All PHI is encrypted at rest using VAERION's key management system. Encryption keys are managed per-tenant and never exposed to application code. Key rotation is enforced automatically.
Cryptographic Request Signing — No Shared Secrets
Every request to VAERION's PHI Gateway uses cryptographic request signing with IAM-based authentication. There are no API keys to rotate or leak — authentication is cryptographic identity.
Fail-Closed: Non-BAA Providers Blocked
When a tenant has the phi:enabled feature flag active, VAERION's comms layer is fail-closed: all non-BAA messaging and email delivery infrastructure is blocked. PHI cannot leak through non-BAA channels regardless of user action.
Full PHI Audit Log
Every PHI access, every AI call, every record retrieval is captured in an immutable audit log with actor identity, timestamp, operation type, and resource identifier. Audit records are stored within VAERION's PHI-isolated infrastructure and are fully searchable for compliance reporting.
Feature Flag Gating (phi:enabled)
The entire PHI pathway is gated behind the phi:enabled tenant feature flag. Healthcare-specific routing, VAERION's HIPAA-eligible AI processing, medical transcription, and PHI data access are all disabled by default and require explicit enablement — preventing accidental PHI exposure in non-healthcare deployments.
PHI Gateway Architecture
The PHI Gateway implements a strict dual-path architecture. Standard (non-PHI) requests route through VAERION's edge computing platform with VAERION's standard transcription engine. PHI-classified requests route through an entirely separate path: the edge layer signs the request with cryptographic credentials, forwards it through VAERION's PHI-isolated processing layer (IAM-authenticated), which processes the data against isolated storage and VAERION's HIPAA-eligible AI processing infrastructure. No PHI ever traverses the standard edge infrastructure in its final storage form.
Standard Path (Non-PHI)
Edge Worker → VAERION Standard Transcription → Encrypted Storage
Used for: scheduling, messaging, general operations
PHI Path (HIPAA-Eligible)
Edge Worker → Cryptographic Signing → PHI Gateway → Isolated Storage + HIPAA-Eligible AI
Used for: clinical records, AI consultation, medical transcription
VAERION implements HIPAA-ready controls and operates under a signed Business Associate Agreement. "HIPAA-ready architecture" reflects the technical design of the system. Certification status and compliance obligations for your specific use case should be evaluated with qualified legal and compliance counsel.
Treatment Planning
Treatment plans that factor in everything your patient walks in with.
A treatment plan that ignores insurance coverage is an estimate, not a plan. A treatment plan that ignores drug interactions is incomplete. VAERION's Treatment Planner builds on the full clinical and financial context already captured in the patient chart — so the plan your provider creates is grounded in what is clinically appropriate, what is financially realistic for the patient, and what the patient's insurer will actually cover.
The AI Consultant is embedded directly in the Treatment Planner. As procedures are added to the plan, the CDS engine evaluates them against the patient's clinical profile in real time, surfacing any interactions or protocol requirements that affect the sequencing or safety of the proposed treatment. Insurance coverage estimates update dynamically as the plan is built — so your provider can present the patient with a complete picture before leaving the operatory.
For multi-phase treatment plans spanning multiple appointments or benefit periods, VAERION helps sequence procedures to maximize insurance coverage utilization — a function that previously required manual coordination between clinical and billing staff. The system surfaces the optimal sequence and flags any procedures that should be prioritized within the current benefit year.
Insurance-Aware Procedure Sequencing
When building a multi-procedure plan, VAERION calculates the insurance coverage impact of different sequencing options and identifies the arrangement that maximizes covered benefits within the current annual maximum. Patients get more care within their existing coverage — without the practice absorbing write-offs.
Clinical Safety Integration
CDS alerts are surfaced at the plan level, not just the individual procedure level. If a planned procedure sequence creates a compounding clinical risk — anticoagulation during a surgical phase followed immediately by a post-operative antibiotic that interacts with the anticoagulant — the system flags it before the plan is finalized.
Patient-Ready Financial Breakdown
Every treatment plan includes a line-item financial estimate with insurance coverage, patient co-payment, and deductible status for each procedure — formatted for patient presentation. Patients walk in to their appointment knowing what to expect. Disputes and surprise balances decrease significantly.
Plan Versioning and History
When a treatment plan is modified — due to patient preference, changed insurance status, or updated clinical findings — VAERION preserves the prior version with a change audit trail. Clinical and compliance reviews have a complete history of what was planned, when it changed, and why.
Clinical Meeting Intelligence
Every patient encounter, documented. Every action item, captured.
The documentation burden in clinical care is not a workflow problem — it is a technology problem. Providers spend a disproportionate share of their clinical time on note completion, action item tracking, and referral coordination that should be automated. VAERION's Meeting Intelligence layer extends to clinical encounters with medical-grade transcription, AI-generated clinical notes, and action item extraction designed for the vocabulary and structure of healthcare.
Dual-Path Medical Transcription
VAERION operates two transcription pathways. Standard encounters use VAERION's standard transcription engine for fast, cost-efficient transcription. When PHI is present — patient identifiers, diagnosis codes, medication discussions — the system automatically routes to VAERION's medical-grade transcription engine, a HIPAA-eligible transcription service purpose-built for clinical vocabulary, medication names, and anatomical terms. The routing decision is automatic and based on encounter classification, not manual selection.
AI-Generated Clinical Notes
After a patient encounter, VAERION generates a structured clinical note draft from the transcription — in the format your practice uses. The note captures chief complaint, clinical findings, assessment, and plan in SOAP or equivalent structure. Providers review, modify, and sign. Documentation that previously required 10-15 minutes of post-encounter dictation takes 2-3 minutes of review. All AI processing routes through VAERION's HIPAA-eligible AI processing infrastructure under your signed BAA.
Action Item Extraction
Clinical encounters generate action items that span multiple departments: a referral to a specialist, a follow-up call in two weeks, a prescription to be called in, a pre-authorization to be submitted. VAERION extracts these commitments from the encounter transcript and routes them to the appropriate team member — automatically, with clinical context attached. Nothing discussed in the encounter falls through the cracks between documentation and execution.
Encounter-to-Chart Integration
Transcription output, generated notes, extracted action items, and updated treatment plans are all written back to the patient chart — in the Clinical Workspace — automatically after provider approval. The encounter creates a complete, auditable record: what was said, what was decided, what was documented, and what was assigned. Your compliance team has a full trace, not a partial one.
VAERION Medical-Grade Transcription
HIPAA-eligible medical transcription built for clinical vocabulary — medication names, anatomy, diagnosis codes — with higher accuracy than general-purpose transcription on clinical speech patterns.
VAERION HIPAA-Eligible AI Processing
All clinical note generation, action item extraction, and AI consultation runs through VAERION's HIPAA-eligible AI processing infrastructure — ensuring every AI call is within the PHI boundary under your signed BAA.
Automated Chart Writeback
AI-generated outputs are reviewed and signed by the provider, then written back to the chart automatically. No copy-paste, no manual data entry, no transcription errors from re-keying — the audit trail is complete and continuous.
“The insurance intelligence alone justified the switch. We were manually calculating remaining benefits and guessing at pre-auth requirements. Now VAERION flags every pre-auth requirement the moment a procedure goes on the treatment plan and has the narrative drafted before we've even confirmed the appointment. Our admin team went from drowning in auth paperwork to processing it in minutes.”

Governance & Compliance
Built for the governance healthcare already demands.
Healthcare compliance is not a feature to be added later. VAERION's compliance architecture is foundational — it shapes how data moves, how AI is invoked, and how every action is recorded. The controls below are not configurable toggles. They are enforcement mechanisms built into the routing layer.
Consent-first communication
Every patient communication is validated against documented consent preferences before delivery. Consent is checked at the routing layer — not the application layer — making bypass architecturally impossible.
PHI encryption at rest and in transit
PHI stored in VAERION's isolated data store is encrypted at rest with VAERION's key management system. PHI in transit is protected by TLS 1.3 and cryptographic request signing. There is no unencrypted PHI path in the system.
Immutable PHI audit log
Every PHI access, AI call, and clinical decision is written to an append-only audit log within VAERION's PHI-isolated infrastructure. The log is structured for HIPAA audit requirements and supports full replay for incident investigation.
Feature flag isolation
The entire PHI pathway is gated behind the phi:enabled tenant flag. Healthcare features are disabled by default across all non-healthcare deployments — preventing PHI-capable infrastructure from being invoked in the wrong context.
Non-BAA provider blocking
For phi:enabled tenants, all non-BAA messaging and email delivery providers are blocked at the infrastructure level. PHI cannot be transmitted through non-BAA channels regardless of configuration.
Cryptographic PHI gateway auth
Access to the PHI Gateway requires IAM authentication with cryptographic request signing. There are no long-lived API keys for the PHI pathway — access is tied to cryptographic identity and audited by VAERION's infrastructure audit log.
